Terry La Rue
Terry La Rue is a Seattle-based photographer and printmaker who has turned to the camera to confront and eternalize the struggles that come with a life of excruciating pain and the side effects that follow. He lives with a rare condition, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, that continues to challenge his physical and mental health. La Rue has discovered an ability to help heal his mental wounds and improve his quality of life through his creativity behind the lens. Using his camera as a distraction from his pain by focusing on the world unfolding around him. Constantly searching for a moment to capture or experiment with still life. Having to continually adapt his approach to photography depending on what his body and pain levels will allow at any given moment. His hope is that he can help inspire others to create and express themselves through the challenges of creating art. By overcoming creative obstacles and find the beauty between the pain life can bring. He believes a photograph isn’t a proper representation of reality. It’s a frozen moment in history that distorted by the photographer’s life experiences, emotions, and soul.
